Shakti DB Presentation in NIC Tamil Nadu

NIC Tamil Nadu organized an online technical session on “ShaktiDB: An Indigenous Database Ecosystem” on 20th August 2025, aimed at enhancing the understanding of officers on emerging indigenous database technologies. The session was conducted by experts from IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation, the Technology Innovation Hub of IIT Madras.

SIO, NIC Tamil Nadu, welcomed Shri Vasan, Chief Project Officer, along with the ShaktiDB team, and highlighted the importance of continuous learning and adoption of new technologies. The session saw active participation from HOGs, senior officers, NIC TNSC personnel, and District NIC officers across Tamil Nadu through video conferencing.

The presentation focused on ShaktiDB/BharatDB, a secure, high-performance indigenous RDBMS built over PostgreSQL 17.4, funded by MeitY and developed in collaboration with IIT Madras and CDAC. Key features, security enhancements, vulnerability management, SLA-based support models, and comparisons with other RDBMS platforms were discussed.

Case studies—including implementations in City Union Bank and iCube ERP—were showcased. Participants engaged in discussions on hardening, backup, performance tuning, and monitoring dashboards.

The session concluded with appreciation for the ShaktiDB team. This initiative supports the Government of India’s Make in India vision by promoting indigenous database solutions and advancing technological self-reliance.
